In other news, I apparently messed up my hands a few days ago and I'm not able to draw. Or, at least draw "correctly" I hope my hand will heal up by the time I get to the convention so I can draw some sketch cards

Meanwhile, our family dog, Ginkgo, is staying with me for two weeks while my parents are on vacation. He's super sad that mommy is gone (and forgot to bring his toys), so I gave him an old/broken StupidFox Plush. he enjoys carrying it around and chewing on it (surprisingly very durable so far considering he has destroyed every other dog-toy we've given him), but he mostly likes to use it as a pillow.



PS. For those of you with a StupidFox Plush, I do not suggest letting your pets play with it because it's not a real dog-toy We watch him very closely when he plays with it and make sure he doesn't actually try to eat it.

London MCM Expo 2012
As for how MCM Expo went, it was an amazing experience! And because of the great turnout, chances are, I will be returning to MCM in October 26 - 28 as well It was great being able to meet many of you (and seeing a bunch of unique and creative cosplays!) A few of you left me your DeviantArt names, but the notepad they were written down on went missing (though probably in luggage somewhere), so I am sorry if I was not able to get back to you but please feel free to send me a note/message anytime.
In any case, to those who attended MCM Expo, I hope you had an awesome time and were able to check out the other artists in our group who were there:

So I know Avengers is all the hype right now with all the explosions and fighting and ... explosions ... (which is apparently all I can remember from it right now), but I'm just going to derail here and talk about Justice League.

WHAT IS “HOT MESS”?
Hot Mess is a web-comic created by Diana Falzone and Geoff Skinner which can be read at: www.HotMessComic.com!

“The story revolves around high-school freshman, Anna. Like all of us, Anna has a constant war raging inside her head, with all the different sides to her conscious vying for attention. In Hot Mess we’ll get to see these different sides of Anna’s psyche – from the manic-depressive id, to the self-righteous superego – represented by different animals who each voice a specific point of view.

Each of these animals constantly give their opinions on what Anna should do in all the social situations she encounters from confronting the mean girls to how to handle her first love triangle – and they’ll often butt up against one another and fight over who is right.”




WHAT IS THE CONTEST?

CATEGORY 1: Draw yourself with at least one animals/creatures representing a part of your Psyche! Your Psyche-Entity can be in the form of a real OR made-up animal/creature, but cannot be another person or personified inanimate object . Then, write at least 3-5 sentences telling us about what part(s) of your Psyche the animal/creature represents. You must include yourself in the piece, but it does not need to be an accurate depiction

CATEGORY 2: Draw at least one of any of the characters from “Hot Mess” (Person or Animal)! This can be done in your own style or you can follow the comic’s style. (Judging for this category will be based mainly on Artistic craftsmanship.)




Judging for Each Category is as  follows:

CATEGORY 1:  Artistic Quality
In Category 1, entries will be judged based on the following for Artistic Quality:
- Use of Line and/or Color and/or Craftsmanship.
- Composition and Placement.
- Time and Effort based on Amount of Detail shown (OR) Cleanliness.


CATEGORY 1: Thought & Creativity
In the Artistic Creativity Category, entries will be judged based on the following:
- Meaningful and Relevant Character Design(s) without over-designing.
- Depth of Concepts and/or Ideas.
- Depth of Concepts and/or Ideas related to the “Hot Mess” web-comic.


CATEGORY 2: Artistic Quality
In Category 2, entries will be judged based on the following for Artistic Quality:
- Use of Line and/or Color and/or Craftsmanship.
- Composition and Placement.
- Time and Effort based on Amount of Detail shown (OR) Cleanliness (OR) Thought in Design.




GENERAL RULES:
1) Although mentioning the title “Hot Mess” in the artwork itself is not required, it is required in either the Deviation Title (OR) Artist Description for reference.
2) Entries may also be disqualified for the following: Vulgar or adult material, works suggesting any racial or sexual discrimination and works with clearly offensive intentions.
3) The following mediums will not be accepted: Photography, Paper-Craft, 3d Renders, Actors & Cosplay, Animation and Flash.

4) All Artwork must be 100% created by the Artist (Exception: collaborations). Any work suspected of plagiarism in any way will be automatically disqualified.

5) Only one (1) entry allowed in one (1) category per person. If in any case two submissions are received from the same person, the newest submission will be disqualified as a repeated entry; no exceptions. If a new or updated entry is uploaded over the first entry, the update will be ignored since entries will be saved externally from DA as they are first received. Therefore, make sure your entry is your final entry before you send it in!




ENTRY RULES:

1) Submit your entry to DeviantArt as you usually would.

2) In the description area, please include the following requirements:

All materials and/or programs used.
Mention/Write “Hot Mess” in the Deviation Title (OR) Artist Description for reference.
(CATEGORY1 ONLY) – In a short paragraph, describe to us what part(s) of your Psyche the animal/creature represents or how it relates to you.

3) Send me a note with the subject “Contest Entry”, and include a link to your entry. Make sure this link works. You will know if your entry has been accepted when I add it into my collection.

Q: I am not good at drawing people/I am not good at drawing animals; what are my chances?
A: Anatomy and proportion will not be a significant factor in Judging. Just do your best!

Q: I find it too personal to be drawing myself. Is there another option?
A: If you are not comfortable representing yourself in a drawing, you can create a persona of yourself. Just make a note of it in the artist description!

Q: To what extent would the piece be considered "Adult"?
A: Sexual innuendos are okay, bikinis and rated PG-13 clothing are okay -- but nudity, curse-words, rated M/Mature material or any other socially inappropriate and offensive material is not okay. Note/Message me if you would like to check with me before drawing or submitting

Q: How many Psyche-Entities can I include?
A: At least 1 … to as many as you want! But remember though, that you will need to explain what each represent! So don’t go overboard and make things too confusing

Q: For Category 1, what can my Psyche-Entity be?
A: Your Entity can be in the form of a real animal or a completely made-up creature from mythology or your own imagination! However, this entity cannot be in the form of a Person/Human, or inanimate object (as interesting and funny as that may be )

Q: For Category 1, how "Anthro" can my Entity be?
A: Your entity must be/appear more animal than human in order to portray their more "animal instinct" side. (As opposed to animals portraying and leaning more toward humanistic sides). HOWEVER, Humanoid Creatures such as mermaids, centaurs, or man-bear-pig are acceptable. (But I'm hoping you can be more creative with these combination Please refrain from the typical angel/demon looks )  

Q: For Category 2, which of the Hot Mess Characters can I draw?
A: Any of the characters depicted in the original comic, human or animal, minor or major can be drawn! You can also draw more than one character in a piece.

Q: Can I submit more than one entry? Or submit two times in two categories?
A: No, you are only allowed to submit One Entry and in One Category.

Q: Can I submit something that I have done before already?
A: Only Deviations that are submitted after February 20, 2011 will be accepted.

Q: Can my Entry be in the form of a comic?
A: Yes! Your entry can be in any style, format or size! However, if you have two comic pages, it’ll be better to combine it into one; if the second page is on a separate link from the first, it will not be counted.

Q: Is there an Age Restriction or Limited to a certain Country?
A: Nope. You can be whatever age and from whatever country. Do note though, that I will ship everything out by First-Class mail (and keep the receipts on record), but I am not responsible for any lost Packages.

Q: When is the Deadline for this Contest?
A: Deadline will be April 30, 2011 at 10:00PM Pacific Standard Time. Anything submitted after the deadline will be ignored. But if there are any changes or if there is a Deadline Extension, it will be updated in the Journal!

Q: Can I Donate a Prize?

The StupidFox (Vulpes bardus) is a small diurnal mammal found in the forests of the woodlands, and less commonly in the woods of the forestlands[1]. The average StupidFox lives up to 10 years and weighs between 12 and 15 pounds (5 to 7 kilograms). While its most distinctive features are its Carrot orange fur coat and long, bushy tail[2], the StupidFox proclaims that its most flattering qualities are its roguish charm and debonair good looks.[citation needed]

Like most species of fox, the StupidFox is not a pack animal.[3]
